Dentistry Dynamics: Plaque Buildup Prevention

Posted .

Did you know that plaque buildup in your mouth can cause several problems not only with your teeth but your gums as well? Plaque is a thin layer of bacteria in your mouth that consists of debris and bacteria capable of destroying your smile. Due to the risk of plaque buildup, it is important to eradicate it whenever possible.

Plaque buildup often results due to poor oral hygiene. To keep your smile safe, be aware of any products in your diet that can slowly damage your teeth and gums and eliminate any products that can cause tooth loss or gum disease. Oftentimes, plaque buildup can convert substances such as sugars and starches into harmful acids capable of causing dental erosion, so eliminate various harmful ingredients from your diet.

To help improve your oral health and eliminate plaque buildup, make sure that you’re brushing and flossing on a daily basis. To brush correctly, use a safe brush that has soft bristles. Furthermore, when flossing between your teeth, take your time so that all areas can adequately be cleaned in areas that your brush cannot reach. Furthermore, you may want to consider using a nonabrasive cleaning utensil after eating, such as mouthwash.
