Healthy Holiday Treats

Posted .

At Dr. Kim Family Dentistry, we really enjoy the holiday season: joyful festivities, shining decorations and time with family and friends are a few of our favorite things. However, the holidays can be a dangerous time for your teeth what with all of the sweets we tend to munch on. If you are wary, you can guard your teeth by selecting which treats to enjoy and which to skip. Here’s a little bit of additional info for you on which foods are okay to munch on.

If you have only one rule to keep for your dental health at this time of year, we’d recommend that you skip sticky foods. Sticky foods, as you might guess, stick to your teeth and become grounds for bacteria to work away at the protective layers of your teeth, eventually creating cavities. Foods like dried blueberries, gumdrops and jelly beans are some of the worst offenders. Do everything in your power to decline these foods and your teeth will be healthier; if you must consume them, be sure to brush and floss your teeth afterward to get rid of any leftover materials.
